How to Pack for Your Stay at Pacuare Lodge

Packing for a stay at our eco-lodge in the rainforest can be a bit of a challenge. We’ve got the best of both worlds, here at Pacuare Lodge, so you need to pack for both. You need to be prepared to get dirty and pampered, get wild as well as relax by the river. And, because of a few unique features at our lodge, we recommend a few items that you wouldn’t normally bring on a luxury vacation.

Packing for sustainable luxury

Many adventurers choose Pacuare Lodge as one of their destinations while exploring other regions of Costa Rica. We’re a little unique gem nestled in the middle of the rain forest, surrounded by the Pacuare River. Here you’ll find yourself in luxury accommodations that aim to be completely sustainable. It’s a unique treat for people who appreciate sustainable hospitality while living in the lap of luxury. Sustainable doesn’t mean rugged, you can be pampered like royalty while still keeping your carbon footprint to a minimum.

Reusable water bottle

Bring a reusable water bottle to minimize waste.

Our water comes from an uncontaminated spring high in the Talamanca mountains so our guests can enjoy clean, fresh water during their stay. Help us meet our goals of sustainable tourism and bring a reusable water bottle, thereby helping to minimize waste.

If you don’t have one, you can buy one at the lodge. And, you’ll be happy to learn that we’ve received the Blue Flag Ecological Program recognition, an honor only bestowed upon those who help maintain and protect the environment, river, and springs ensuring clean water for all.

Candle lit suites

Bring a headlamp so you can read your paperbacks after dark.

Although the candle lit suites at the lodge are beautiful and romantic, you may want to pack a headlight so you can keep reading those paperbacks after dark. Each room is equipped with a lantern that uses renewable, clean solar energy, but if you want a little extra light, a headlamp is a great choice.

If you’ve got Kindles and tablets you can recharge them in the main lodge or reception area.

Heels and rubber boots

Since we’re in the middle of the rainforest, even in the dry season, you should expect to experience a bit of mud on your hikes and adventures. Be sure to pack proper footwear for hiking, zip lining, and river rafting. You don’t have to bring rubber boots, as we provide these to our travelers. And, try not to wear any shoes that you wouldn’t want to get wet or dirty.

Of course, when you’re relaxing and being pampered at the lodge, sitting by the river, enjoying the local cuisine, or enjoying our spa treatments, make sure you have your casual loungewear and a pair of wedges or flip-flops.

Transporting luggage to the lodge

It may seem like you need to pack for two types of vacations when visiting Pacuare, and in a way, you’re right. However, due to our remote location, and the fact that you’ll be arriving by river raft, you want to try to minimize your packing. Visitors who are coming to us from another destination should think about packing a separate bag for your stay at Pacuare Lodge. Your bags will arrive by raft, so you can’t overpack. We can store your additional bags in our luggage area at the river takeout center.
